Shopping for Auto Insurance in Maine
While shopping for auto insurance in Maine, you may want to consider that insurance companies are allowed to use credit as a factor in determining your car insurance rate. You must be informed of this credit check either at the time of applying for insurance or when you are renewing your policy. Keep in mind; credit scores cannot be the sole factor in determining your car insurance rates. Car insurance companies may also consider your driving record, where you live, how much you drive and the type of car.

Just like there are different insurance companies in Maine, there are different methods that these companies use to create an insurance score. So if you are turned down by one car insurance company doesn’t mean you’ll be turned down by all of them. That’s why shopping around for car insurance is so important.

No matter if you are shopping for auto insurance in Bangor, Lewiston, Portland, Biddeford or anywhere else in the state of Maine, InsuranceFinder.com can help meet all of your insurance needs. For more information regarding automobile insurance laws in Maine, you can visit Maine’s Department of Professional & Financial Regulation at http://www.state.me.us/pfr/ins/ins_index.htm.

Maine Automobile Insurance Requirements:
In order to satisfy the requirements for auto insurance in Maine, motorists are required to purchase the following three parts:
Liability
UI (Uninsured)
Medical Payments Coverage

The minimum auto insurance coverage for liability is 50/100/25. This will provide $50,000 in bodily injury or death to a person, $100,000 in bodily injury or death in an accident, and $25,000 in property damage per accident. The liability portion pays for medical injuries to the other party due to your carelessness. UI coverage is designed to protect you against uninsured motorists if you get into an accident. Medical payments coverage includes all reasonable hospital, surgical, chiropractic, X-ray, dental, professional nursing, prosthetic, and funeral expenses. By law, you must have at least $1,000 in coverage.

The state of Alaska also requires you to have a copy of your auto insurance policy or a certificate of self-insurance to prove you are covered. Should you be involved in an auto accident and don’t have proof of car insurance it could result in the suspension of driver’s license. Before your license can be reinstated, proof of financial responsibility must be supplied and reinstatement fees must be paid.

The Maine Automobile Insurance Plan
